Über diesen Kurs:

Seit der Antike sind in den Beziehungen zwischen Herrschafts­gebilden bzw. Staaten vielfältige persuasive oder propagandistische Aktivitäten nachweisbar. In der jüngeren Moderne kamen im Zuge einer "Medialisierung" der Außenpolitik neue Ansätze der Selbstdarstellung hinzu, die kommuni­kations­wissenschaft­lich als Public Relations und Public Diplomacy analysiert werden können - in einer eher wirtschafts­wissenschaft­lichen Perspektive lautet das Stichwort "Marketing".

Gegenwärtig sind in der Kommunikations­praxis von Staaten, abhängig von ihrer Regierungsform, ganz unterschiedliche Ausprägungen der Selbstdarstellung zu beobachten, die von klassischer Propaganda bis zu avancierter Public Diplomacy, Imagepflege und zum "Nation-branding" (Markenbildung von Nationen) reichen.

In diesem Masterkurs werden wir die wesentlichen theoretischen Konzepte der staatlichen Selbstdarstellung wie auch speziell deren Aufgaben und Funktionen kennen lernen. Anschließend sollen diese Konzepte anhand von Fallbeispielen an der Realität überprüft werden. Am Ende wollen wir im Seminar gemeinsam erarbeiten, welche Anforderungen sich aus dem Gelernten für angemessene Konzeptionen moderner Selbstdarstellung von Staaten, Regionen oder Kulturräumen im Kontext der oft beschworenen "Globalisierung" ergeben.

Die Teilnahme an diesem Masterkurs setzt die Bereitschaft zu aktiver, kreativer Mitarbeit wie auch zu intensiver Quellenrecherche und -lektüre voraus!
